Creative Expression for Youth

Creative Expression for Youth

For over ten years I have been working with youth to express their creativity, to build a deeper sense of self trust, to gain the tools to navigate conflict, to communicate their needs and emotions, and to form a relationship of respect and reciprocity with Mother Nature.

Ever since I was a little girl, I always dreamed of becoming a teacher and as an adolescent began working as a tutor, babysitter, and camp counselor. After graduating high school, I worked in different preschool settings in Israel, alongside an early literacy program in California, and in a Bilingual and Multicultural school in Ecuador. I felt convinced that I wanted to focus on education, but as a Sociology major, I spent a lot of time critiquing a flawed educational system and recognizing all the ways that our outdated schooling structure is currently failing our children.

Determined to experience an educational paradigm that does work for kids, upon graduating university I set off on a three-year journey, where I traveled all through South America exploring, learning, and teaching alternative and holistic educational approaches. This eye-opening experience reaffirmed my beliefs that for children, creativity is not just important, it is everything! What impacted me most about these educational spaces is how by design, they are child-led versus adult directed. These children were invited to participate in circus, yoga, dance, music, gardening, bioconstruction, crafts, and cooking as they felt called, becoming autonomous agents of their own learning.

So when I arrived back in California, I spent over a year and a half as a learning pod facilitator, holding containers for children between the ages of 2-6 to explore their creativity. I am focused on facilitating a high-quality educational experience for children and teens drawing from the philosophies of Steiner, Waldorf, Montessori, and Magda Gerber.

I am excited to weave in wisdom about the moon and her phases into our children’s awareness, through art projects, creative writing, story telling, dance and body movement, song, and connection to the natural world.
